Candidate Endorsements
We endorse in primary and general elections through screening committees, GKCWPC Board and membership
votes. We utilize the following considerations.

Previously endorsed incumbents running for re-election do not need to be screened for endorsement by the
Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus. While screening of previous endorsed candidates is not mandatory,
previously endorsed candidates whose voting records did not support Caucus issues may be screened.  The
GKCWPC now endorses women candidates only.  (
not listed in priority order)

Considerations for GKCWPC candidate endorsement & contribution
Candidate endorsements for the NWPC is a tiered process.  The national board screens and endorses candidates
for federal level offices, with the input of the local and state organizations.  Statewide candidates are screened and
endorsed by state boards.  State senate, state representative, and local candidates are screened and endorsed by
local caucuses within their geographic areas.  The state board may elect to screen and endorse candidates in areas
where there is no local caucus.

The GKCWPC because of its unique position, straddling the Missouri and Kansas state line, screens and endorses
local candidates in the greater metropolitan area encompassing both Kansas and Missouri.  Because there is no
Kansas State NWPC-affiliated organization, the GKCWPC also performs the screening for Kansas candidates
running statewide in addition to the local candidates.
State Representative, 41st District. Rep. S. "Kiki" Curls, a Democrat, represents part of
Jackson County in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was elected to the
House in November 2006.

She is now running for the
9th District Senatorial Seat for the State of Missouri.

In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. Curls works in real estate development, and
currently serves as the 14th Ward Democratic Committeewoman in Kansas City. She is
also a member of the St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

Cindy Circo was elected to the City Council in 2007. She has been a resident and small
business owner in Kansas City for the past 25 years, establishing roots in the Country
Valley Neighborhood in the eastern part of the
5th District. Cindy was raised in
Independence, Mo., and also has lived in Kansas City’s Old Northeast area. With the
support of her extended family; her husband, Dan Circo; and her sons, Dominic and
Mario, Cindy is ready to take on another term on the City Council.  There are many
issues facing Kansas City and we need strong leaders on the City Council – leaders
who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard; leaders who are not afraid to
ask the tough questions; and leaders who are visionary.  Cindy has shown us this type
of leadership in her first term on the City Council and we need her leadership and
experience at City Hall in 2011.

My name is
Melba Curls, I am currently the 3rd District At-Large City Councilwoman,
and I am running for re-election in 2011.

I am a proud, lifelong resident of the 3rd District, and I have raised my family here.  I
have been here through many stages of Kansas City's development, and I look forward
to the opportunity to contribute to its continued growth.  I will be a positive, hard-
working, accessible member of the council.  I will continue to be visible, responsive and
responsible to all the citizens of Kansas City.

Jan Marcason was elected to represent the Fourth District of the City of Kansas City,
Missouri in March 2007, and is campainging again for the Fourth District. As an in-
district representative, Jan has taken great pride in focusing her attention on
neighborhoods and protecting the cultural core of our city. At the same time, Jan has
worked hard to be a team player and to maintain a broad perspective on issues that
benefit the entire city.
Congratulations Ladies on the Primary, good luck in March!
